- Issue: Legacy Project
- Legacy is the City's Plan for parks/openspaces/non-motorized trails, etc., developed by a task force with ample opportunity for residents’ input. Resolution 1108 (7/10/2008)- Passed 5-2 (Kiest-Nay).
- Issue: Friends of Third Place Commons (non-profit) funding
- This non-profit organization holds many community events at Third Place Commons and is responsible for operation/management of the Farmer's Market. Ordinance 943, 2006 budget proviso (1/26/2006)- Passed 6-1 (Kiest-Nay). Revised budget to add $10K and an additional $5K of matched funds.
- Issue: Interim Tree Ordinance
- Ordinance 990 (11/20/2008) Passed 6 to 1 (Kiest-Nay). Kiest also voted Nay on an amendment to this ordinance requiring posting of the application for a tree permit for 2 days prior to removal of a tree.
- Issue: Senior Center and Hopelink Funding
- Budget amendment (12/10/2008) As Budget Chair, Mr. Kiest recommended eliminating 2010 funding for Hopelink ($3500) and the Senior Center ($7000).
- Issue: Burke-Gilman Trail
- Ordinance 951: Conditional Use permit (11/9/2006). Passed 6-1 (Koppenol-Nay). This Ordinance was challenged by King County at the Growth Management Hearings Board in 2007. LFP lost. The City of LFP paid more than $250K in legal and consultant fees.
